Ball You Need Is Love…and a little skill.
Get involved...read about how one of our partners F3 plan to smash a world record with famous freestyler Dan Magness...be a part of the journey and join them in London next week...
On Tuesday January 26 2010, four times Guinness World Record Holder Dan Magness will attempt to break another world record, by juggling a ball thirty miles across London and visiting all Premier League football stadiums in the Capital in the process. To be successful, Dan Magness must keep the ball under control at all times using all parts of his body (except his hands) and keep the ball off the ground.
The world record attempt heralds the launch of ‘The Ball’; the epic journey made by one legendary football, taken through Europe and 17 African countries to the opening of the FIFA World Cup 2010.
The African leather football (hand-made, fair trade, durable and repairable) to make the epic journey, will also be the football that Dan uses for his world record attempt. In much the same vein as the Olympic Torch, The Ball is seen as a symbol of hope, promoting peace and unity.
Dan's journey will begin at Craven Cottage (8am), the home of Fulham FC and finish just before kick-off on the pitch at Tottenham Hotspur FC (6.30pm). In contrast, the football’s onward journey will visit Europe and 17 African countries including Morocco, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Namibia, Botswana and South Africa.
Dan has been committed in training for the past 2 months through the snowy conditions with the help of Sam Jones Gym in Sheffield and will be assisted on the day with the expert help of XFor security.
In support of the ‘The Ball’, The Freestyle Football Federation - F3 an organisation set up to inspire young people through football, of which Dan Magness is an ambassador, will provide freestylers to offer ‘tricks’ workshops to players along The Ball’s route. With the simple message “all you need is a ball”, young people from any environment or background, will be able to try out these tricks with The Ball as it passes through communities between London and Johannesburg.
