Stiff legged and tired I arrived back in Bristol late yesterday evening after completing the Snow Camp challenge. The group all achieved skiing 16800 Vertical metres over 2 days across numerous Austrian resorts around the Hochkonig and Gastein regions. For all it meant skiing non stop for 9 hours each day covering 80-90km of piste. Fortunately no one suffered any injuries and over 30K was raised for Snow Camp which will continue to contribute to sustaining the future of such a worthwhile charity. Many of the people who took part were inspiring, entertaining and fantastic company. There was a huge range of age, ability and people from all backgrounds and walks of life converged for this one challenge. Never before have I experienced a group, many of whom were strangers prior to the event, bond and support each other so well. Everyone pushed (quite literally in some cases) oneanother forward when things got tough and across all the groups laughter and banter reverberated around the mountains.
My group - Team Incredibles, pictured left had a blast all were pleased as punch to finish all together. The first day was blessed with clear skies and sunshine although the second brought snow and towards the end of the day full on blizzard conditions which made it very tough going but a speedy Schnapps on the side of the piste enabled my limbs to force themselves downhill!
My legs still feel like jelly, but the experience was worth it and I can fully recommend it to anyone who wishes to take on the challenge in 2011! Thank you to all who supported me and for those of you who still wish to donate here’s the link. http://www.justgiving.com/maggieblagrove
