2nd Chance are very pleased to announce our successful bid for the Big Media Box Contract, which offers bursaries to disadvantaged young people to produce their own issue based media. Our overarching aim is to create positive change in the lives of young people leaving the criminal justice system and /or those at risk of offending. We aim to achieve this by promoting the value of young peoples’ life experiences through multi-media platforms, which in turn will raise aspirations, challenge perceptions and give young people the opportunity to become skilled in media production.
Our partner is Knowle West Media Centre, in Bristol, who work with the community to develop the creative, educational and social potential of people within Knowle West and surrounding area. They produce high-quality film, design and media work and provide exciting experiences for young people, running a diverse programme of arts activities, including exhibitions, events, talks and screenings.
This project has been written in consultation with young people from Ashfield Young Offenders Institute and Knowle West Media Centre. We will offer 10 bursaries worth £1000 each. Some will come from Ashfield Young Offenders Institute and the remaining referred from our community partners. The project will enable collaboration between young people aged 15-19 in custody and the community. They will produce issue based multi platform media, including radio podcasts, music videos, short animated films, graphics and web assets. The project will open up dialogue through revealing, sharing and understanding of circumstances that some young people find themselves in and the system that is created around them. In addition they will learn project and event management, marketing and exhibition skills by showcasing their own work and other mentoring other young people. There will be a big exhibition event at the end of the summer to showcase all the work produced.
If you would like to know more or have young people who may benefit from this scheme then please get in touch with Maggy Blagrove at 2nd Chance. Further promotion of the scheme with exact details for applicants will appear in the next couple of weeks. Follow 2ndChanceCIC on twitter or watch the web for announcements.
