Community Development Level 2

This Apprenticeship is a good choice for anyone interested in social change and making a difference. Community development is about helping local people develop the skills they need to influence and improve their quality of life. This includes removing the barriers that prevent people from participating in the issues that affect them.

Community development is all around us with people working for local authorities, or voluntary and charitable bodies, to bring about change. As an apprentice, you might be active in one community, or maybe have a specific aspect to your job (for example, community-based learning, regeneration and renewal, community sport or community safety). You must achieve the NVQ, the Certificate in Community Development at Level 2 and Key/Functional Skills Level 1 in Communication and Application of Number, unless you have GCSE C grade Maths and English within the last 5 years.

Mandatory units – you must successfully complete ALL FIVE mandatory units

Unit A1 Make relationships within communities
A1.1 Make contacts within communities
A1.2 Help develop working relationships within communities

Unit B1 Contribute to the development of community groups/networks
B1.1 Help community groups/networks to identify strengths and weaknesses
B1.2 Help community groups/networks to develop their own practice
B1.3 Encourage community groups to work in ways that are inclusive and empowering

Unit C1 Work within communities to select options and make plans for collective action
C1.1 Contribute to gathering information to aid decision making
C1.2 Contribute to evaluating and selecting options for collective action
C1.3 Contribute to developing a plan of collective action which ensures people’s participation

Unit C2 Contribute to collective action within a community
C2.1 Encourage people’s participation in collective action
C2.2 Help community group put an agreed plan into action

Unit F1 Identify and reflect on own practice, knowledge and values
F1.1 Identify and reflect on own role within communities
F1.2 Identify strengths and areas for development

Additional units – you must successfully complete ONE optional unit

Unit C5 Contribute to the review of needs, opportunities, rights and responsibilities within a community
C5.1 Contribute to identifying and prioritising a group’s needs and opportunities
C5.2 Contribute to identifying and prioritising a group’s rights and responsibilities

Unit E1 Encourage the best use of resources
E1.1 Contribute to the planning of use of resources
E1.2 Contribute to the monitoring of use of resources

Unit F4 ldentify and take action to meet own learning and development needs
F4.1 Identify and take action to meet own learning needs
F4.2 Identify and take action to meet own support needs
